Memoirs of a Costume Jewelry Manufacturer (DeLizza & Elster)

DeLizza & Elster was a costume jewelry manufacturer for more than 40 years. This was a company well-known to insiders but not the general public. Their name was the name behind many companies selling costume jewelry from 1947-1990, and includes a company they created for retail sales, Juliana Jewelry. The list of companies purchasing jewelry from DeLizza & Elster during that timeframe, reads like a star-studded guest list. Companies like Capri, Alice Caviness, Coro, Kramer and Weiss to company moguls like Hattie Carnegie, Joan Rivers and Kenneth J. Lane. There were home party and catalog companies like Sarah Coventry, Tara and XXX as well as large corporations such as Surprise! Walt Disney. Mr. DeLizza's book takes the reader through the history of the family, the events leading to the creation of a new manufacturing company, day-to-day operations and great insight into some of the companies on their client list.

Jewelry Theft Arrest

In March, 2006, the Bay County Sheriff's Office was called to a home in Bay County in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a safe in the home had been opened and about $100,000.00 in jewelry had been taken. A subsequent investigation lead to a local woman who had previously worked for the owners of the jewelry and was familiar with the layout of the home. A warrant was issued for Donna Mauldin, DOB 5/24/60, of 1714 Maple Avenue, Panama City. Mauldin was picked up and is currently incarcerated for Principle to Grand Theft and Burglary of an Occupied Dwelling. Impulse Beaded Jewelry

Often with beaded jewelry you can get a lot of bang for your buck. That is true with some of the bead finds on the Avisa Imports web site. They have loads of gemstone beaded jewelry at (pardon the pun) rock bottom prices. They call themselves a "wholesale to the public" company, and that usually means they import huge quantities of impulse purchase type items that enables them to sell at very low prices. Now, you aren't going to find one-of-a-kind original beaded jewelry designs here, but if you are looking to stock up on some fun fashion jewelry for yourself, or maybe you are a super early bird holiday shopper and need some stocking stuffers for the babysitter or your child's teachers, then this is also a place you may want to check out. .

Room jewelry

Antique brasses on valuable old tables, secretaries, buffets and breakfronts are not to be trifled with or their antique value might drop dramatically. Ever witness the heartbreak of hopefuls appearing on "Antiques Roadshow" when they're told that their furniture would have been worth $50,000, except for the lame hardware replacing the originals? So don't go replacing any drawer pulls, hinges, cabinet doorknobs, locks or latches on family heirlooms or furniture purchased at auction. A new chest of drawers might benefit from a hardware upgrade or style switch, or most any piece from a flea market or yard sale. And isn't it just too easy and fun to switch out the hardware on lesser items around the house, such as drawer knobs on a bedroom chest from childhood, or a piece of unfinished furniture you've nicely painted that's ready for some jewelry do-dahs on the drawers or doors? Bona Decorative Hardware in Oakley always offered me plenty of choices for ceramic knobs of all colors, sizes and shapes - button-flat or spherical - and multiple metal selections - copper, brass, chrome, black iron, bronze-colored...

Couple robbed of jewelry, heirlooms worth thousands

As Dale Lewis lists off some of the jewelry taken Tuesday during a break-in at the Charleston Township residence she shares with her husband, she doesn't calculate its value in dollars. The couple's wedding bands are gone. There's the simple gold band that was more than 100 years old and belonged to John Lewis' grandmother. And the pair of opal earrings that Dale Lewis' father worked overtime to buy her after she was accepted to George Washington University. Those are memories and a family heritage that, unlike money, can't be replaced, Dale Lewis, 59, said. ``This is not a tragedy of someone's life being taken, but it's like a piece of our lives is gone because a lot of that was our heritage and the memories of the family (members) that gave it,'' she said.
